My wonderful weekend

What's behind this door? Only the best birthday present ever - my sewing/craft room!

This is my sewing table...

and this is my cutting table (sorry, it got put in the post turned the wrong way and I'm too lazy to fix it). I'm so excited! Now whenever I want to sew I don't have to drag everything to the dining table to do it. I just love it! Thanks Daniel! I also have a rotary cutter, mat ,and rulers that should be arriving any day now. Yay!

I turned 30 on Monday and it was a wonderful day. One of the best birthdays ever. Daniel left me a card that he designed on the table to greet me when I awoke. Then I had lunch at the Pizza Kitchen (one of my favorite places to eat) with Desi, Ashlee, and Natalie and all of our kids. It was so much fun! Unfortunately, I forgot to take pictures.

Then, I got a wonderful surprise in the afternoon. Two of my dearest friends, Whitney and Kavita, drove all the way from Nashville to spend time with me on my birthday. They are so awesome! I've been friends with them for almost 12 years now. We became instant friends when we all met at freshman orientation at UT in the summer of 1997. They are the best. The picture above is one of the gifts they brought me. It's an iguana punchball. Who comes up with this stuff? Although I have to admit, it's probably the most unique gift I've ever gotten.

Here's a picture of Kavita, Whitney, and I at Chez Guevara (another favorite place to eat). We went there for my birthday dinner.
Finn, Daniel, and my brother Daniel were there also. All in all, I had a wonderful day spent with friends and family (and a cake from Magpies). It was the perfect birthday. I had so much fun turning 30. I also had a wonderful Valentine's Day. My very wonderful friend Kristie babysat Finn and actually kept him overnight! Thank you Kristie! So, Daniel and I got to go out and do what we love to do most on a cold, winter evening (or really any evening) - the always exciting dinner and a movie. We ate at one of our favorite restaurants, Stir Fry Cafe, and then went to see Coraline in 3D. We both enjoyed it and were impressed with the new 3D technology. I always love going out with Daniel because I always have so much fun. It doesn't matter what we do. I just enjoy his company so much and am so glad to be married to him. Yes, I had a very wonderful weekend.

Kids and art

I found this great post about how to teach younger children about creating art. I can't wait to try it with Finn when he is a little bit older. For those of you with 3 - 5 year olds, I would be interested to know how the lesson turns out if you decide to try it.

More books I want

I really have to stop looking at the craft books in Borders. I find more I want all the time. I did, however, get one of the books from my previous list - Denyse Schmidt's Quilts. I couldn't wait until my birthday and just went ahead and bought it. I'm excited to get started on my first quilt. I'd also like to learn how to make my own books. Does anyone have any suggestions on good books about making books?

Changing pad with pockets

I used some of my new fabrics to make this for a friend of mine that just had a baby. I have one like this that I bought on Etsy a couple years ago, and I absolutely love it. It's one of the most useful baby items I have. I hope my friends will enjoy theirs also.

Feeling loopy

I've had a sinus infection for the past week and a half and haven't been sleeping well. When I went to the doctor she prescribed me some tylenol with codeine to help me sleep. At first I took one pill before going to sleep, but I would still wake up coughing. On the bottle it said I could take 1 - 2 pills every 6 hours. So, last night at 10 pm I decided to take 2 pills. I'm still feeling it over 12 hours later. I can barely type this post. My mind feels really loopy and relaxed. Who can take 2 of these every 6 hours? I think I'll stick to just one pill tonight.

Favorite thing: Green & Black Chocolate

I love chocolate and Green & Black chocolate is some of my favorite. I'm telling you this now so you can start dropping hints in time for Valentine's Day. You can buy it at some Kroger stores, Whole Foods, or Earth Fare. And while we are on the topic of chocolate ... for those of you who live in the Knoxville area, Magpies is having their monthly cupcake tasting this Friday night from 4 - 7. The flavors this month are Chocolate Covered Cherry, White Chocolate Strawberry, and Red Hot Chocolate. Hopefully, I'll see you there! (Did you know that in the new issue of the Rachel Ray magazine she names Magpies as one of the best places to get cupcakes in the entire nation?!)

Who needs a vampire?

Since I know a lot of you are Twilight fans (myself included), I thought I'd share this with you. In case you've talked too much about Edward and the greatness of vampires, here's a valentine that will remind the special guy in your life that you can love regular guys too. You can get it here.
